Nurse First

venture lead:

Nurse First is a new career pathway for potential community health leaders and innovators which has been developed in response to the increasing demands on this part of the NHS workforce. The ‘Nurse First’ career path will focus on those nurses and other community health professionals who are ambitious to find ways to improve services. Nurse First will give these professionals the support and training they need to deliver change.

The programme will select 25 entrepreneurial community health professionals and train them in Leadership, Innovation, Finance and Entrepreneurship skills. It involves 21 days of residential development, professional coaching, expert advisors, and access to some of the UK’s leading innovators and social entrepreneurs. The core of the development programme involves them taking an idea from concept to making it real and fully-funded by the end of 12 months. They will learn powerful tools for increasing their personal effectiveness and they will learn how to develop creative ideas, communicate those ideas and attract the support they need to make those ideas real.

The Nurse First pilot is being sponsored by Johnson & Johnson and will be delivered in partnership with Queens Nursing Institute and Buckinghamshire New University.
